The Science Behind the Name
The hippocampus organizes information into memory, guides navigation, and enables learning. It stays small and structurally simple, yet it carries outsized importance: it lets an organism turn experience into knowledge, and knowledge into better decisions.
Organizations work the same way. They can keep operating long after they stop learning, adapting, or improving. Operational Intelligence restores those capabilities. It helps leaders observe patterns, organize information, align systems, and make better decisions before performance erodes.
The two words share an unlikely resemblance. Campus comes from the Latin word for “field.” Hippocampus comes from the Greek word for “seahorse.” The connection is a coincidence of language, but a fitting one. Strong Campus exists to be the part of an organization that remembers, navigates, and adapts, so the rest of it can execute.
